The mission of SBW is to provide youth with bicycles and the space and tools to repair them, while also encouraging safe riding skills.
We believe that bicycle riding and repair can provide a conduit through which to teach valuable life lessons such as teamwork, perseverance, problem solving, and leadership.
Our vision is that all Bellingham youth, regardless of family income, are able to partake in bicycle riding and to become empowered through learning to care for their bikes and through learning skills for riding safely on roads.
Sterling Bike Works opened its doors in May of 2013 and began offering bicycles, parts, education, and repair assistance to youth living in the neighborhoods nearby–primarily Cordata and Birchwood. The shop is small, and the inventory is based upon donations, so we keep our range limited. That said, we are happy to help anyone who is willing to make the trip out to the shop!
We are always searching for donations of bicycles, parts, and tools in order to keep the shop stocked. We also gladly accept cash donations to support shop functions. All donations are tax-deductible. If you have something to donate, please contact us!
